Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent 365 will be included in the new E7 license.

Microsoft is preparing to release a new Microsoft 365 E7 enterprise plan, the first in ten years. The last time the company added a new subscription level for enterprises was in 2015, when E5 appeared. According to Directions on Microsoft, the launch is expected in the next few months.

The E7 is not just conceived as the E5 plus Copilot. The new subscription is based on the concept of "digital employees": Microsoft plans to license AI agents in the same way as live workers. Each agent will need an Entra ID account, mail, OneDrive storage, and access to Teams. To manage agents, the subscription will include Agent 365, a platform currently undergoing testing under the Frontier program. Agent 365 integrates identity management through Entra, compliance control through Purview, and security infrastructure through Defender XDR. The platform supports agents created by both Microsoft tools and third-party and open frameworks, including cloud-based partners.

In addition to Agent 365, Microsoft 365 Copilot should be included in E7, as well as a number of Entra functions that are not currently available in E5. Microsoft has so far declined to comment: a company representative only said that "there is nothing to share information at the moment."

The context is important: Copilot has been selling modestly so far - just over three percent of the 450 million corporate users of M365 have bought a subscription. The price reduction didn't help much, and now the company is counting on the new tariff as a more significant incentive.

From July 1, Microsoft raises prices for all corporate packages: E3 will rise in price from 36 to 39 dollars per month per user, E5 - from 57 to 60 dollars. It is logical to expect the announcement of E7 around the same time. According to Business Insider, a new subscription can cost $99 per month per user - less than E5 and Copilot combined, but with a noticeably wider range of features.

A separate intrigue is the E7 pricing model. According to rumors, Microsoft is considering a hybrid option: a fixed fee per user plus payment upon consumption of resources. According to Lane Shelton, director of consulting services at Directions on Microsoft, this approach brings the M365 licensing logic closer to the Azure economy and positions E7 as a single corporate AI infrastructure management platform.
