The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned of a new trap with voice confirmation.
Telephone scammers are increasingly starting to cheat with a request to repeat the voice phrase. The call is disguised as an appeal from a polyclinic, an insurance company, from a telecom operator or government, and the recorded voice is then used not for hacking, but for pressure on a person.
The scheme with voice confirmation on May 24 was reported in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The department said that the scammers call a person on behalf of a polyclinic, insurance company, a telecom operator or government, report the need to confirm the data and ask to repeat the prepared phrase. For example, the phrase about consent to data transfer, replacement of the policy or confirmation of identity.
After recording, the fraudsters move on to the second part of the scheme. A person is told that the voice has allegedly already been used to design a power of attorney, log in to services or theft of biometrics. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed that the usual recording of the conversation does not give access to bank accounts and the portal “State Services”. Biometric systems work much more complex and are not activated by a simple phrase from a phone call.
The main goal of criminals is psychological pressure. Scammers create a feeling of an incident that has already occurred, frighten a person with consequences, cause panic and then drag the victim into a multi-step deception.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends to immediately end the conversation if the interlocutor begins to intimidate responsibility before the law, the transfer of funds to the Ukrainian army, theft of personal data or requires to go to the messenger.
