According to the company, WhatsApp has identified and stopped phishing attacks by NSO Group on several accounts in Jordan and Lebanon. Meta also found that NSO created test accounts and groups in the messenger. It is not a mass campaign, but a point attempt to access through malicious links.
NSO Group is known as the developer of the Pegasus spy program. Previously, such a tool used a vulnerability in WhatsApp to penetrate phones and access messages, photos, calls and other data. Last year, Meta won the court against NSO for attacks via WhatsApp and received a decision on compensation, which was later reduced from 167 million to $ 4 million.
The court also issued a permanent ban that did not allow NSO to attack WhatsApp and its users. Meta believes that the new actions violated the court order, and asked the court to find the company guilty of contempt for the decision.
